This wood came from a Missouri farmstead where an old Maple tree was dying out and had fallen on a fence row. This particular piece was made from the root of the tree, saved because of its unique shape as the tree was being removed and cut for use in other projects.
Wooden cutting boards have health benefits because wood is naturally resistant to many types of bacteria and it doesn’t require much maintenance. Richard uses his own formula of spoon butter, also known as cutting board cream, made with beeswax and mineral oil to pre-season this board. To keep your cutting boards moisturized and lasting for years to come, handwash with a mild dish soap and occasionally rub down with beeswax and mineral oil.
