Bradford Pear Breadboard

Description

Bradford Pear heartwood color ranges from a pale pink to a light reddish brown, making for an excellent wood for serving pieces. Richard hand carves all his wooden breadboards starting with a large slab of wood that has interesting insect damage and wormholes. This functional, yet unique breadboard is left in its natural shape to accentuate the wood grain and those unique characteristics.

These common trees have been used extensively for landscaping, specifically down a driveway because of their beautiful blooming flowers during spring. Unfortunately, mature trees often lose limbs, or split in half, due to high wind storms or hurricanes.  The wood is extremely dense and fine grained making it particularly good for carving, but downed trees usually end up in the wood chipper. Richard looks for every opportunity to reclaim pear wood, and this breadboard is one fine example of his efforts.
